The word plastic comes from the Greek plastikos, which means to mold or give form. Plastic surgery enables us to mold or re-form the human body. The plastic surgery specialty encompasses both reconstructive surgery and aesthetic surgery, popularly referred to as cosmetic surgery.
Cosmetic surgery is performed to reshape normal structures of the body in order to improve the patient's appearance and self-esteem.
